The accessibility of information, especially scientific and technical information, has highlighted the role of translation in current information age as information barely evolves in isolation. Admittedly, Scientific and Technical Translation (STT) generates the most job opportunities for translators. Since STT is traditionally associated with plain, style-free, and straightforward transference of information, it has been overly unacknowledged. In reality, STT requires both linguistic proficiency and adequate subject knowledge. Furthermore, it necessitates understanding concepts such as: text-functions; document types; style matters; translation tools; readers’ needs, expectations and limitations; translation and usability strategies; translation pitfalls, etc. Accordingly, this book aims to fulfill the need for a fruitful, holistic and reliable resource on STT, which contradicts false assumptions and covers all issues related to STT. The book primarily addresses translation students interested in researching or working in this field. It is also helpful for translators outside the academic discipline who practice STT, but suffer from the notable lack of relevant resources.
